Fleet Base Canberra:
Motto: Permissum nos utor forma navis (Let’s have fun with boats)
Fleet Base Canberra (FBC) consists of a small group of members, most of who also belong to the ACT model Boat Club (ACT MBC). Because of this association, we have a wide range of models including non-1/72 scale craft. FBC as a group is very new but we are looking to build membership especially by looking after the often transient Defence population in Canberra.
First display of the FBC Banner – 16 May 2010
Most FBC members live in Canberra, but we also hope to form a base for country members from Southern NSW, far from other Fleet Bases. FBC models mainly fit in the destroyer and below category, although tugs are very popular here too. We have a particular interest in ships of the RAN; this being particularly relevant as we have links with the RAN Seapower Center and with them, and other display opportunities in the Canberra area, historical RAN vessels are of particular interest. This does not prevent us from building ships from anywhere which means that British, Canadian, and Russian ships as well as interesting submarines from any nation can be found at our meets.
We hold a run about once a month with the occasional run away visit to Fleet Base Wagga Wagga as well as other runs near Sydney and south which appeal. Our runs are normally held at Diddams Close, a lovely protected and semi-enclosed beach and bay on Lake Ginninderra. We share this venue with ACT MBC.

We also participate in non-TF72 events such as the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) open day run by Russ French, the Canberra Model Shipwrights Society static display in September/ October annually and in the bi-annual Sub-Regatta run by the ACT MBC every second Easter in the Phillip swimming pool – a very popular event.
