Future AORs named

Post by CarlLinkenbagh »

The RAN's future AORs that will replace SUCCESS and SIRIUS are to be named SUPPLY and STALWART. Good choice.

Lots of history in those names.

A good call.

I agree, excellent selection, I wonder what the new Submarines will be called.

Almost certainly they won't be called after dead admirals.

That decision, made by the then Chief of Navy, did not go down too well. After all for every person recognised with a sub named after them, at least two equally deserving do not. Then there's the fact that the majority of them are named after senior officers.

One suggestion that the Sub fraternity really liked, was to name them after types of sharks found around Australian waters.

Hammerhead
Thresher
Tiger Shark
Bronze Whaler
Great White
White Tip
Etc...

Given the history, Thresher might not be a good name or omen.

Hopefully they may go with the earlier subs names "O" Boats. Just have to find 6 more "O" names.
