Re: Annual Regatta @ Naracoorte Swimming Lake
Hello everybody, just a small catch up on the Regatta 2016. As you all know it was held at Naracoorte in South Australia around 3.5-4hrs south east of Adelaide. Fleet Base Gulf Waters would like to thank all that attended especially the people that came long and far to be at this event! Huge effort and not an easy task with many vessels rolling around in the car so to speak. The weather was the best we have ever had with sun burn going all round the venue was amazing as always with clear water, up graded toilets and the Kiosk suppling food and drink over the weekend. Thank you Narcoorte for having us yet again having the lower car park closed to the public making parking easy for members and suppling security guards Saturday night too look after peoples models and gear why we all went off for dinner and presentations. Jim Warren has done an amazing job in organizing the Memorial service for the 75th Anniversary of the sinking of HMAS Sydney II by the lake with Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR having a speech and laying a Wreath in memory of the 645 sailors that lost their lives that fateful day 75 years ago. Truely a beautiful service in honor of those lost. Scott

Re: Annual Regatta @ Naracoorte Swimming Lake
Hi All , I see Mike is anxious to know the results from Naracoorte. Apologies for the delay , but a few members failed to indicate names and / or numbers of vessels in attendance. Now that that is complete , the results are as follows :
Wentworth Shield : HMAS Sydney (V) AWD #42 - Owner : Scott Rice ( FBGW ) : Runner up : Emden . Owner : Graham Hamilton ( FBGW )
Military Vessel : HMAS Sydney ( V ) AWD #42 - Owner : Scott Rice ( FBGW ) ; Runner up : Emden . Owner : Graham Hamilton ( FBGW )
Non Military Vessel : Cape York -( Freighter) . Owner : Gunter Schefe ( FBGW ) ; Runner up : Lindenfels (Freighter) . Owner: Gunter Schefe (FBGW)
Newbie : Le Terrible - French Destroyer . Owner : Mike Morgan (FBGW) Scratch built from photo's.
Homer : Gunter Schefe (FBGW) - Lindenfels attempted to enter small ship mooring compound by trying to go over the fence instead of going through the open gate ( Although he said at the time that his son was driving the vessel ?? )
The following is a total make up of members, total attendee's & vessels .
Members : 33 Total attendee's : 42 Vessels : 59 .
As Scott made mention earlier , the weekend , I believe was a great success. With good weather , a good showing of visitors , although comment was made about the lack of advertising when some members of the public made mention of this, I can assure the members, this was done by Radio, Newspaper and Coloured flyers being put up around the district some months prior.
The highlight for the weekend , was the Ceremony held just after sunset on Saturday 19th , commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the sinking of
HMAS Sydney II off the West Australian coast in 1941. I wish to pay particular mention to Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR for accepting our invitation and taking time out of his busy schedule to participate in the role of Reviewing Officer and formally laying the wreath on the water for the ceremony , and not forgetting his wife , Liz.
Also , I wish to thank all the members of FBGW who made the effort in the weekends proceedings and the other FB members who made the effort to make it a memorable event.
Thanks also go to those who have posted photo's in previous entries.
Cheer, Jim

Re: Annual Regatta @ Naracoorte Swimming Lake
OK here is a run down,
I put my post up rather late the other night and left off a few good people! We would like to thank Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC, CSC, RANR and his Wife for attending our Task Force 72 Regatta and taking the time to be viewing officer at the sail pass and returning later that night in full uniform as one of the official guests taking part in the 75th anniversary of HMAS Sydney's sinking. Rob Crowe from the Naracoorte RSL resighted the Navy Ode, The Mount Gambier Naval Cadets provided a line of honor guard and Jim Warren gave a break down of those events 75 years ago that took 645 men. Thank you to Ada and Nerida for collecting the regatta fees and registrations in the morning and David Campbell for collecting the voting forms and working out the winners. We have a thank you going out to Brenton Tancock for bringing the Bouys and float markers along to the regatta and Graham Hamilton for jumping in Friday to set the sailing course up! every year hot or cold Grahams in doing the job And all the club members that helped set up and pack up the Marquees, tables and Jim and Ada's massive trailer. THANK YOU

Re: Annual Regatta @ Naracoorte Swimming Lake
Hi All , One thing that was missed at the regatta was photo's taken of the presentation of awards , certificates etc. Upon our return home , I sent an email to our Reviewing Officer asking he he could avail himself at either one of our monthly meeting or sail day to do this task. He replied saying he would do this on our monthly meeting on 11th January. Apart from him presenting certificates to the winners , it was also to present him with a
" Certificate of Appreciation " for taking the time to travel down to Naracoorte and assist in our annual event , which culminated in the ceremony commemorating the sinking of HMAS Sydney II on the Saturday evening. The Admiral attended the meeting with wife Liz present also , to which Liz commented to me as to where was my wife , as both women served in the WRANS ( Womens Royal Australian Navy Service - for the uninitiated ) to which I replied that I wasn't sure if you ( Liz ) was coming. Anyway , the Admiral accepted his certificale, although his response was that this was entirely unnecessary to which I told him that this is standard practice .
Below are the recipients being presented their awards and / or certificates.
