Fleet Base Greater Sydney Navy Arvo Run at Hubertus 7th January.

Post by MichaelB »

Our first run of the year was at Hubertus for Navy Arvo. Again a large turnout of people and models including about half of Fleet Base Canberra who brought along a several new models including a pair of Soviet Steregushchys (Boikiy and Soikiy) and a tiny Soviet WW2 G5 torpedo boat which reminded me of an RN WW1 Coastal Motor Boat. This is Peter Cole’s latest plastic fantastic. Lovely to watch on the water.

Adding size and weight to the Soviet fleet, Mick Elst came up from Fleet Base Wagga Wagga with two big boys, the Kirov Class Frunze and the carrier Kuznetsov.

Also a Russian AGI which kept tag of the USS Vella Gulf. The Soviet invasion was in full swing.

It was a hot but not windy day and we all had a good run except for poor Mick Elst whose Kuznetsov tragically dropped to the ground whilst being taken out of the water. The resulting damage to the A frames, shafts and rudders means a serious amount of repair work to be undertaken. To make it more upsetting, this was to be her first run. :( Hopefully we will see her operational again soon. You can see from the photos the sheer presence on the water this huge model brings.

Photos by as noted.

Looks like a great day, nice to see a Tico out there and Frunze is coming along nicely. Sorry to here about Kuznetsov Mick, that would have been great to see sailing around.

cheers
