Operation Regatta 2017 - Wentworth Falls Lake
Good Afternoon all,
The Regatta is just 17 days away.
Preparations are just about complete and we have a Reviewing Officer, representatives from the Blue Mountains City Council and a couple of other guests coming along to share the weekend and particularly Saturday with us at Wentworth Falls.
Sunday is an all Clubs and All Scales day and we have invited the usual modelling clubs in the Sydney area.
There will be a BBQ lunch on both days with tea and coffee available throughout each day. A big thank you to Dave and Karen Pearce who have very kindly agreed to take on the BBQ again this year.
For this Regatta, picking up on the suggestion Kim White spoke about in the March 2017 CLD, there is a challenge out there to see how many Corvettes, including Flowers, we can get on the water at the same time. So if you have one, bring it along…who knows, there might be a record in the offing. Will this be “the summer of the Flowers?"
Please find the Regatta programme available for download below. A big thanks to Craig Taylor for pulling this programme together. For those not attending, enjoy the read and the trip down memory lane. There will be a Post Regatta Report and I am certain we will see lots of photos getting onto the Website and Facebook.
For those attending, a printed version of the Regatta programme will be handed to you at Registration.
As with any event, there is a fair bit of organisation and planning that goes on behind the scenes.
I’m sure you will all join me in thanking the members of the Committee and in particular Phil Somerville, Michael Brown and Craig Taylor in Sydney for their assistance in preparing for the 2017 Regatta.
To assist me with catering, if you haven’t already notified Phil, Michael Craig or me that you will be attending, could you please email me. We don’t want to run out of goodies at lunchtime.
The challenge at Wenty when running a Regatta is getting the trailer in, unloaded, gazebos and tables set up, picket fences up - before we put our ships in the lake and start the festivities. This year we have the Trailer arriving at 7.45am and we hope to be setup and squared away by 8.30am. If you can come along around 8am and help with the set up that would be very much appreciated.
Looking forward to catching up and to a great weekend.

Awesome event team. Great weather, great venue, great models and great company. Had a great time catching up with those of you I meet two years ago and new modellers this time around. Looking forward to getting back over in a couple of years time and might even have a model in tow.
Thanks for a great time.

Re: Operation Regatta 2017 - Wentworth Falls Lake
Thanks all,
Since the completion of USS San Francisco & having her gain this year's awards of the Wentworth Shield & best warship of the annual regatta
( without even moving from her mooring all day ) , I suppose I'll have to come clean & admit my little health episode was a strategic tactic to
gain the sympathy vote to win the award ! Yea, right ! I'm still paying the price & haven't spent more than about 30 minutes all up in the
backyard shipyard, since crawling home from the regatta. But I must congratulate whoever it was that took over the organising of the
outstanding number of escort units available for the sail past & fleet revue, which appears to have gone off without a hitch, or a Homer
moment. A better result than I would have expected if my HMS Heather K69 was involved. This phantom commander ? should be immediately elevated to full Commodore of the 'Inshore Escort Squadron', so as I can retire on a full invalid pension.
Now at this time I would like to convey my thanks to 'Doc Dave' & all his unqualified assistants for their never faltering humour & lewd
advice, which kept me from chewing ma leg off, & as Treasurer Brown eloquently put it " that would need copious quantities of
tomato sauce".
