FBGW Monthly Sail Day 27th May

Post by HelloSailor »

A big thank you to all who offered assistance to enable our monthly sail day to go ahead in my absence , whilst I was is France tracing my late Grandfathers steps during his WWI service.
As for today's event , I wasn't sure it was going to happen on two ( 2 ) counts. Firstly , my wife pointed out to me about anarticle in the Saturday Advertiser of road closures due to a marathon run being held with the main road we access to the pond was listed as a closure. After numerous phone calls , this was not happening , so advised all members of what needed to happen to gain access to the pond. Secondly , the weather. The forecast was for 90% rain and about 8mm of rain. Well , the rain held off , just a couple of light sprinkles with agood turn out of members. The majority left early , so no BBq lunch.
No doubt Bruce ( B2 ) will scour Bruce Petrie's photo's on facebook to insert to this report.
Met the Senior Naval Officer commanding South Australia on Friday night & he was able to pop in for a quick visit to see the models first hand before he avails himself as our Reviewing Officer for the National Regatta in Naracoorte in Noember. He was pleasently surprised at the amount of time , effort & detail that goes into making the ships.
Doing a NON official display tomorrow at Scott's daughters school tomorrow , so hopefully the forecasted rain holds off.
Cheers, Jim

Looks like you Chaps had a great day, despite the weather. Interesting to see the picture of the AWD & FFG together, which gives a good indication of size comparison. Pity the AWD doesn't have facilties for two Helos, looking at the overall beam increase which would easily accomodate the increased capability if required.
Some very nice models, with plenty on the stocks, so to speak.

The option was there for a second hangar, but Defence regarded it as not essential.

The Navantia option for the SEA 5000 project is designed to have either one or two hangars, depending on the customer's preference.

The same is true on the Type 26 while the FREMM is only being offered with two hangars.
