Russia's first Pacific-built Project 20380 light frigate has set out on sea trials, 12 years after the vessel was first laid down and 4 years late.
The ship, named Sovershenny (hull number 2101), has put to sea with a mixed naval crew and workers from the Amur Shipyard (ASZ) where it was built to test its propulsion, steering, communications, navigation, and ancillary systems, stated the Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet.
Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD)-controlled Zvezda TV showed the ship firing its 100 mm main gun during sea trials on 1 February.
Sovershenny is the first warship built by ASZ in 50 years, according to the Moscow-based Centre for Analysis of Strategy and Technologies (CAST).
Author's note: The Project 20380 frigate is better known in the West as the Steregushchy class corvette.
