Unfortunately it will be a few years yet before that hangar is full of F35s

QE2 will be commissioning QE2 in Portsmouth on Thursday 7 December.

Not exactly the most auspicious day for naval ceremonies.

This photo is too good not to share.

HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH passing Gibraltar. There's no doubt about it, she's a very impressive ship.

There will be some great photos coming shortly when she arrives in New York. She is doing FOCFT (First of Class Flight Trials) with the F-35Bs off the coast of USA. She has already visited Mayport in Florida and she will go to Norfolk, VA and a PR visit to the Big Apple. That will be a sight, seeing her passing the Statue of Liberty.

Two very different technologies. HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH transits with the future USS MICHAEL MONSOOR DDG-1001. MONSSOR is heading to the West Coast of the US for her commissioning. QE is finalising her flight trials with the F-35Bs.

Now that is one of those photos that makes you stop and think.
Think of the 80's, back then that photo would have been HMS Hermes and a Charles F Adams DDG, things certainly have changed.

HMS Queen Elizabeth departed HMNB Portsmouth yesterday, to participate in WESTLANT 19, the next stage of testing to bring the vessel into Operational Service.

She will be in company with HM Ships Dragon & Northumberland, supported by RFA Tideforce.

In other news, first elements of the Ships Company have moved onboard her Sistership, HMS Prince of Wales which is in in the last few months of construction. Contractors Sea Trials are not too far away now.

Nice video from last years Westlant 18, featuring the USMC heavily instumentated aircraft.
