Cunard's magnificent flagship QUEEN MARY 2 visited Sydney on her annual World Cruise and berthed at Fleet Base East....the only suitable berth in the harbour able to accomodate her.

Here are some photos I took of the ship in the area surrounding Garden Island. The ship is so enormous that she is quite dificult to photograph but it was a nice way to spend an afternoon.

It was nice to have the opporunity to photograph the QM2 and HMAS BALLARAT together. I have crossed the North Atlantic Ocean from Europe to North America on both these ships.....on the QM2 in 2004 (Southampton-New York), and BALLARAT (Portsmouth-St. Johns) in 2009. The QM2 was an infinatley more comfortable and enjoyable way to do it.

My sentiments entirely.
Too many bloody big projects (myself guilty as charg'd on CV64) never start, or fail to finish. Logistics kill it in the end, as does a degree of impatience to participate. -Most of us could build a fleet of 5 or 6 Frigate sized vessels in the time it takes to have a competent builder to get a CVN sized vessel to the point of getting wet, let alone finished.
Hats off to Craig for Big E - the exception rather than rule. QM2 is far bigger, heavier, and far more detailed than any CVN.
