not sure if this is helpful but here is a shot of Glamorgan's turrets in the correct colour for LAG in the 1960's, as supplied per Mike B's formula and Dulux.

Think I'll give up on LAG - just had another 1 Lt can mixed up and it's green too :taz: :taz: :tnk: :gunsb: :gunsb:

G'day Martin,

If your using 2 different based paints they can react with one another. eg, water based acrylic enamel with a turps or thinners based undercoat. It's best to try and have all your paints with a compatable thinner.

Scott,

There is no Australian name for haze grey. It is an American federal standard colour. The name has been a generic name for USN hull colours. I think the current one which has been around since the 1950s is the 3 rd version.

Colours used by the USN are:

Weatherworks: FS26270
Decks: Either FS36076 or FS26008. I’m told that 008 is the dark charcoal almost black colour used now.
Letters/Hull Numbers & Ships Name/Draft Marks: FS26373

The bad news is that Australian paint shops don’t carry mixes for FS colours. But some hobby colours are matches to 595:

Humbrol
26270 US Medium Grey 126

XtraColor Name
16076 X128 Engine grey
16270 X133 Neutral grey

ModelMaster or Testors Name

36270 1725 Neutral Gray
36076 Panzer or engine Grey

Your best bet would be to drop Russ an email as he has built USN models for Bath Ironworks & should have formulae for the FS colours.

Martin,

Suggest you insert large object into a certain part of your paint mixer's anatomy!

May be Kim can get some mixed up for you as he is in Victoria too.

Hi Martin, most paint trade centres like Dulux or even Bunnings with a computer mix system will have the AS and FS databases and will mix up the colour you need just need to give them the FS number

Depends on the year.

Hull/weatherworks would be BS381C 676 Light Weatherworks Grey but the deck colours changed during her life as did boat colours etc.

Basically when she had green decks, bollards etc were white & ships boats various colours.

After the Falklands baost, bollards etc went to LWG too.
