G'day everyone,
Well I am new to the Scale Ship building world and I am looking forward to getting into this hobby. I will be visiting Fleet Base Sydney's next run on Sunday 23rd Sept up at Wentworth Falls Lake for a chat.
I'm going to start small with a Tug plan that I have found on the web that I will build up from scratch.
I have never fiber glassed before and I haven't worked with plastic for 8 years (1:24 cars). So I have a bit of a learning high curve to overcome.
If anyone can put me on the right track for guidance on where to get materials (HIPS and FiberGlassing Supply, ETC) in the Sydney area, that would be a great help.
I'm also looking for a supplier of a Hull for FFG's. I have see a few names pop up but can't find anything firm on the web for 1:72 scale hulls in AUST...
My future goal is to build a complete set of HMAS Sydney's (all 5). I have almost finished the Hull plans for Sydney I (1914), and have been designing all the fittings/guns in CAD to be printed out on a Home Made 3d Plastic Printer that I am about to finish. The other Sydney's I have some ideas to what I am going to do for them, but I'm still to start any design/planning for them.
Thanks for your help and I'm looking forward to meeting you all some day,
Cheers,
Matthew

Re: New to the TS72 world.
Matthew,
Don't worry too much about learning about fibreglassing right now. Allan Pew has about every Sydney xcept the carrier as a semi kit including the hulls & fittings. He'll be up at Wentworth Falls on Sunday.
Al is APS Models who do not have a website but he always carries his catalogue with him.
FYI there are quite a few FFGs in the club including Sydney + one Sydney 2 under construction and another one completd.
No sydney 1 in the club but her sister Adelaide is in the club.
regards,
Michael Brown

Hi Matthew, the AWD SYDNEY (V) is also under construction in SA too. It'll be nice to see a SYDNEY I around too. Enjoy your day up the mountains tomorrow. Cheers.

In theory 9:30 am. John Konda would normally be there by then & the rest of us trundle up later depending on the delights of the current roadworks on the way up the mountain.

Michael

Re: New to the TS72 world.
Thanks Mike for the drive, I really enjoyed it.
I'm going to talk to Al and order a O.P.V Protector class style..
In the mean time I'm going to look at something a bit smaller just to play with...
Cheers again,
Matt
