Good Day All
The Mission report for Fleet Base – Perth
Sunday 4th March at Jackadder Lake.
The weather report: was 15 to 20 km/h breeze with choppy water conditions which eased some what as the day moved on and the water was also very weedy.
Skippers in attendance with their charges were Bob with Bismarck, Rob and Peter the Great and also Tug Smit Finland, Nige with HMAS Toowoomba, and Serge (me) with HMS Brilliant. Also there were Peter P as he was not 100%, he did not bring a model, he also brought along Sammy our youngest member who has now moved to Perth for Uni studies so we may see him more often- welcome.
As I stated in the weather report earlier conditions were windy and choppy and all skippers enjoyed the challenge of sailing in the conditions, all models handled the conditions extremely well, with the big ships Peter the Great and Bismarck hardly noticing the chop. For the two escorts Toowoomba and Brilliant the conditions were a little more lively and I must say both designs handled the conditions without any problems, tug Smit Finland handled the conditions but took on water, check the photo, after every sail Rob would take out about a litre of water – a bilge pump might be in order.
The water was very weedy and unfortunately the weed turned the day into a bit of a chore, all skippers were bringing back their charges after few minutes of sailing as props, rudders, stabilisers were being fouled, speed being reduced to near nothing, no rescues were required which was just as well as tug Smit Finland had as many problems with her propulsion system being fouled as the rest of us.
Apologies for the quality of photos as I left my camera behind all taken by phone –enjoy
Cheers
Serge

Thanks for posting Serge, the weed did indeed get a bit testing, several times reducing PTG to just a slow crawl.
