Westland Wasp HAS.1

Post by littoralcombat »

Hi All,
Apart from scatchbuilding, the only options available for a 1/72nd Wasp HAS.1 that I am aware of, have been either a converted (expensive and often critisized) Airfix Scout, or the (VERY expensive, but very good) Shapeways 3D printed version.
Another option may soon be available from a Company called Freightdog Models, who have advised me via their Facebook page that they hope to release their version around November this year. No details on price at his time, I will keep you all posted on progress.

Hi All,

Just to state the obvious here, but also to confirm that the Wasp is still an ongoing project for Freightdog Models, although now to be released "sometime in 2016".

There was a 1/72 white metal conversion kit available once. Long out production I think. The mob we're called C-scale from the UK. I got one via mail order in the 1980's. Got mine through either Hannant's or ED models I think. It's not for sale because I am going to build it(hahahahahaha) one day....its been waiting 30 years whats a couple more eh!!!

It's in white metal only with a very nice replacement engine. I will probably stuff it up anyway...Happy New Year to all.

They are a pain to build but they don't come up too bad. One is now over 20 years old and the other about 10 years old.

Guys,

There is another possibility for Wasp seekers, although it has a slim chance of actually happening I suspect.

On the Airfix Forum, there is a section called 'Kitstarter'. As it's name suggests, it allows members to suggest old kits that they would like to see updated and then put back into limited production. A vote then takes place and the winner gets a re-release.

There have been several requests from members for either a Scout re-run, Scout/Wasp combination or just a stand-alone Wasp as a new kit.

Just maybe.................. ;)

Michael, is that Tartar I see in two of the pics?

You don't often see the lifts in action as they are either up with a wasp on them or up with the covers over the lift.

Landing on looked to be fun.

Great pictures Michael, especially the overhead of Ashanti which shows the covers perfectly. Thanks for posting.
