Fleet Base Perth - Sail Day Sunday 18 November 2018

Post by PearlHarbour52 »

Blue skies and little wind presented itself for the Fleet Base West sailing day on Sunday. Members that attended were Andrew Kemp, Pete Pawlette, Glen Howells, Bob Gilbert, Nigel Rockey and Ron Grim.

The day was destined to be a challenging day with Submarines on the prowl, with Pete bringing down his USS Skipjack and Andrew bringing down his latest acquisition, a model of the Soviet Akula class attack submarine. Glen brought down his ever graceful Liberty ship which at times was seen as a potential target for the submarines lurking beneatht the depths of the lake.

For once it proved to be more challenging the surface skimmers as often you would see 5 boats on the water, but sometimes 3 on the water and 2 benath it and boats scattering everywhere as the captains were unsure where their models would surface. Particularly for Andrew, when he dived the Akula for the first time, a silence descended across the members followed by a collective cheer when it re-surfaced.

A good day had by all.
