Carriers & Escorts Weekend 2022

While we were facing a distinct lack of aircraft carriers to escort, we did have a good turnout braving chilly conditions.

I'll post images from the day in this thread, but I feel its important to bring to our members attention that those perfidious and dastardly Russians have taken to fitting their old Udaloy class destroyers with nuclear propulsion.

When interviewed, the commanding Officer of RFS Marshal Vasilyevsky, Capitan First Rank Dmitri Pierceovsky denied any such upgrade, and demanded we cease asking questions lest he hand us over to the KGB.

We ask you to consider the evidence. Can gas turbines do THIS?

A couple of shots from C&E 2022.

A lot of traffic, at times there were up to a dozen ships and subs all in the pool together.

And a few close shaves.

USS Greeneville coming up to periscope depth. There were quite a few subs operating over the weekend.

A real surprise, in a good way, was this model of the pirate radio ship Caroline.

Radio Caroline was a British floating radio station founded in 1964 to circumvent the record companies' control of popular music broadcasting in the United Kingdom and the BBC's radio broadcasting monopoly. Unlicensed by any government for most of its early life, it was a pirate radio station that never became illegal as such due to operating outside any national jurisdiction, although after the Marine Offences Act (1967) it became illegal for a British subject to associate with it. The audience for Radio Caroline was measured in the millions, eventually forcing changes to the Government's control of radio stations, with BBC consciously copying Radio Caroline's style. For extra value, this model played 1960s rock and roll whenever she sailed around the pool.

A small selection of Steve's fleet of minor war vessels. He didn't really get to sail all that much beyond Arafura, as he was kept busy by eager buyers for his 3D printed parts and some of his hulls.
