Advice Regarding Motors

Post by CMDRBobN »

Some years ago I purchased some motors from TF72 and put them away. Finally I am now working on my model and I need to mount the motors. They came with a plastic cover like Bakelite and a friend suggested that I remove this casing to help with cooling. However to do this I will have to cut connectors connectors that run through the head of the casing to the motor terminals. Before I do this I thought it wise to seek some advice for folks who have met this issue previously.

Any comments please

Hi CmdrBobn, From your description of the motors , would I be correct in thinking they are the " Ford Bhuler " motors we get through Michael Brown.
If so , then yes, remove them from the plastic casing , de-solder the wiring from the terminals a use either re - solder wires with terminals or positive / negative wires with female spade terminals to attach to the male units on the back of the motors.
I have used these same motors in my Vampire without the casings and NO overheating issues. Michael should also be able to supply the mounts for them as well.

Cheers, Jim ( FBGW )

We don't have motor mounts for the Ford Buhlers only the Crest Motors. A normal 540 type motor mount might work.

Most of mine are held in place by Selleys marine silicone only. I figure that has held my Sagems in place for my Type 22 for about 15 years, so must be OK.
