USS Connecticut Incident

The following link is an update on the reported collision that the USS Connecticut (SSN22) has had with an as of yet, unidentified submerged object.
This apparently occurred whilst she was operating in the South China Sea. The fact that the US has chosen to release this information is highly unusual, and makes me wonder if they are pre-empting the release of further information, possibly from another Navy. Especially since this Boat is a highly secretive Sea Wolf Class vessel.
As we are currently witnessing, there is a huge gathering of Naval power in this region at the moment, and there will be, without doubt, lots of intelligence gathering activities being carried out by other Nations in the region.
Let's hope it was just a lump of Mother Earth she hit, and that no life has been lost.

Latest info is that there has been no loss of life and the Connecticut is making its way back to Guam under her own power.

That suggests that it was a worst a glancing collision, possibly with a sea mount or a shifting sand bar.

They haven't released anything officially, and were careful to keep onlookers at a distance on her arrival. She transited the entire trip on the surface with an escort, and what images that have emerged on her arrival in San Diego show much of the bow sonar dome is missing.

If you open the image in another tab you can see the missing plates beginning.

USS Connecticut has arrived at Bremerton, Washington State.
Here is another clearer image of her sailing from San Diego.
