FBGW Delfin Island run
G'day All, Well a disappointing turnout for our monthly run (at Delfin due to the lack of water in the Bonython park duck pond) with only a handful of the gang rolling up. Perfect conditions, no wind, bit overcast early which cleared up by 10ish. The biggest wave came when a Dragon boat crew rowed past!! I had USS CALIFORNIA down for a run, also brought down USS ALBANY for a ballast (and leak proofing) check and USS JOHN PAUL JONES down for ballast check and bit of running. Mike had HMAS YARRA and a 40 year old cabin cruiser model along and Tony had his HMAS MORESBY. Also on hand was Jim, Peter, Kevin, Richard and Bob, With Vince having to pull out due to being called in to work at 2am and Scott on family duties having just got back from 6 weeks working away.

Re: FBGW Delfin Island run
Looks like a good day bruce, I was planning the idea of getting down this morning and taking Iron Dampier out for her first sea trials, but the wife and daughter had other ideas for my Birthday morning brunch before I had to go off to work. Maybe next month.
Did you fire off any missiles at the dragon boat
Nice and warm too.

Re: FBGW Delfin Island run
Hi All , As Bruce ( B2 ) mentioned , only a small turnout. I had a late night due to having to attend my younger Brothers " 60th " birthday , so NO boat
and due to the lack of members , NO BBq lunch either. Unfortunately , our regular venue , Bonython Park was a NO GO due to problems with the liner having a major leak . Hopefully will be fixed and refilled for April run. Cheers, Jim

Re: FBGW Delfin Island run
Is it salt water at the test range Bruce or brine?

Re: FBGW Delfin Island run
Yup salt water Russ! I just wash the hull down with tap water on returning home and give exposed shafts and A frames a spray with WD40 and have had no problems.
a little extra ballast is needed to sit at middle of bootline (1kg at each end of CGN 36), the beauty of it is unrestricted running area for OOW practice (and newbie steering practice)
During missile testing for Scott's HMAS Sydney we headed up on the footbridge and helmed the models from up there...the missiles reached as high as the footbridge at top of their arc....you could almost reach out and grab em'
and no ducks....(or duck poo.... )just a few seagull's and a couple of Pelican's!!
Cheers B2

Re: FBGW Delfin Island run
Love that photo Scott, looks like a great place to sail. I presume you go onto the bridge to navigate the rest of the lake/pond ?
Cheers

Re: FBGW Delfin Island run
Yes you are correct Rob, the only problem with Rymill Park is to many leafs in the water some times but great place to sail. Here is a link for Justin's test run. https://youtu.be/3daswzXVRjM
