Oh dear. Not a good look.
Here is the incident report for the two DDGs. It's a worth a read for those interested in such things:

Those heavy lift ships are amazing. I remember seeing HMS NOTTINGHAM on the back of one at FBE after they towed her back from Lord Howe Island after the grounding. I'm not sure if I was more impressed by the spectacle of an entire destroyer piggybacking on the deck of another ship, or the massive damage to NOTTINGHAM's hull and the fact that she didn't sink. It's a testament to her crew and proof that Damage Control, when done properly, really will save you.
It'd be a fun challenge to try and build one in 1:72 scale and get it fully operational i.e. able to dock and lift a 1:72 scale model.

Re: US Destroyer formation
Thanks for providing the reports into the 2 collisions. They are very comprehensive.
Having read them it is unbelievable that 2 similar front line ships of the US Navy have exhibited such poor standards in seamanship stemming from lack of training and effective leadership.
These are state of the art warships, but the people operating them in both instances would not qualify to drive ferry cruise boats up and down the Yarra river. Who allowed them onto the bridge..... A very sad state of affairs.
Too much reliance on technology and degradation of training in how to use it.
Two good NCIS episodes in waiting, except that it would be too embarrassing.
