Nice shot Kit

I like the batch II River class, they are a nice looking ship, especially with the camo scheme. Do you know if it is going to come alongside and visit for a few days?

That would be a class I would really like to do a walk round and get some good shots for a build one day.

Best bet would be to contact the British High Commission and ask nicely.

They may not have an open day, but may accommodate a single visitor.

Actually it wasn't a great shot. Shooting into the morning sun, and digital zoom because it was too far away.

It's on the west wall after finally getting a parking spot. Marquee on the back suggests it's setting up for a cake and a*se party.

Be a nice build for sure, especially in Tamar's splinter pattern here. Don't know if anyone makes a batch 2 hull?

The class do look nice in their commemorative camo patterns.

I do like the Lion on the superstructure side, a nice counterpoint to the Dragon gracing the bow of the Type 45 destroyer HMS Dragon.

Hi Kit,

Is their any chance of you getting on and getting detail shots for a build? I'm feeling game to take a crack at the hull.

I did some checking, and I don't think anyone does the hull for it.

Perhaps you and Steve B in Wagga can come up with a hull.

Hi Guys,

Given its built in one of the British Ships yards, at least BAE and Babcock & Brown will be at the Sea Power conference it could be an opportunity to see if they would play ball and supply some information etc.

Always pays to ask nicely.

Alternative the a call to the RN liaison officer at the embassy (who will not doubt be at Sea Power) or contact with the British Consuls Sydney office.

Regards
Phil

I'm not that important unfortunately. She is back alongside, and this time across from the finger wharf so someone with a 300-400mm lens might be able to do a bit of research.

I found that Atlantic Models in the UK are working on a 1:350 resin kit for the batch 2.

I don't know how accurate it will be but there's always the possibility of getting one (when it's released), scanning it and scaling it up.

Hi Robert,
A shot of her alongside on 27th October, and another taken of her Transom when she was new, pre-camo scheme.

Some images showing the relatively large size of the RN Type 45 Destroyers.
I've always thought that in pictures that show them on their own, the Bridge windows (which are truly huge) create an optical illusion that deceives the viewer regarding the Ship's true dimensions.
