Mission Sitrep No.      1707 – TF72 National Regatta Weekend Report

Date of Mission:          25th & 26th November 2017

Location of Mission:    Wentworth Falls Lake, Wentworth Falls, NSW

Weather:                     Perfect – Not too hot and very little wind both days.

Ships in Attendance:   A lot – 60 to 70 models were on the lake or on display.

Members in Attendance: 50+ Members from Greater Sydney, Hunter Central, Canberra, Queensland, South Australia and New Zealand.

Mission Actions:          This was a great weekend with all members getting involved in not just the sailing and activities but the camp setup, clean up, pack up etc. A fantastic team experience, and a wonderful reflection of the attitudes of our members.

During Saturday, we took the opportunity to thank the Blue Mountains City Council for the 20+ years of supporting TF72 at the Lake with a presentation to the Duty Mayor,

We also enjoyed having in attendance, the Commanding Officer of HMAS Hobart, acting as our Reviewing Officer for the formal part of Saturday, with the tough job of selecting the winner of the Bravo Zulu Award. So, it was congratulations to the award winners Russ (Bravo Zulu) Allan (Wentworth Shield and Best Military Vessel) and John (Best Non – Military Vessel)– well down, your ships are all wonderful examples of your ship building skills.

On Saturday night, we enjoyed the regatta dinner chatting and laughing about the day’s experiences and events. During the dinner we were able celebrate the announcement of a new Life Member, so congratulations Ron, a fitting reward for your years of service to TF72.

Sunday saw the boys let their hair down and get some of the bigger and faster boats out for a play, which was great entertainment for a bus load of Cadets from the Australian Air League – Riverwood Squadron who were joining us as our guests for lunch and to see our ships.

It was a weekend of many highlights and many great models.

2018 will see us heading to Naracoorte for the National Regatta, so mark the 24th & 25th November in your diary.
